The Big Three
Photoshop and Lightroom by Adobe are well known. Looking just now they are going for $15/month. You will want for nothing as everything is there. It is automatically. updated. Some people object to having a monthly subscription and not owning the software outright. Adobe as well as Capture One realized they can't monetize improvements on just new subscribers but feel that they have to use the monthly subscription model. This is just in my opinion I am never sure when I should use LR vs. PS. LR is a catologing program that allows some modifications whereas PS is a photo manipulation program. I currently use Capture One and am happy with what it does for me. All three read RAW files with at least one prominent online tutor claiming that Capture One has the best conversion program ( no sure how you judge that ).
Cataloging Software. ACDsee is what I use and it does a nice job of letting you keyword your photos and is very fast when it comes to searching for that one specific picture. This is a standalone program that I own and don't have to pay for a monthly subscription.

For film photographers this program has been a game changer - Because I develop my own film there is only so much I can do to get rid of dust on the negatives at the time of scanning. This program does a nice job for me.
